Intention, Relation, Momentum

Flow Meditation – Day 2  Triplicities abound. If you are old enough to remember Schoolhouse Rock, you know that 3 is a magic number… or so the ditty goes:

Somewhere in the ancient mystic trinity
You get three as a magic number.
The past and the present and the future,
Faith and hope and charity,
The heart and the brain and the body
Give you three as a magic number.

And so it is. Spiritual traditions of the world contain fundamental triplicities: Christianity’s Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; Kabbalah’s Kether, Chokma, Binah, Hinduism’s Shiva, Vishnu, Brahma; Buddhism’s Atma, Buddhi, and Manas, and the Egyptian Osiris, Horus, and Isis. Many of these traditions see ‘three’ as the number of primary components necessary for spiritual expression to manifest in the material world. You might say that three is the number of primary elements necessary for all expression in the material world. All colors of the spectrum emerge from the three primary colors: red, blue, and yellow. Newton described the laws of motion in three distinct parts. We’ve got the proton, neutron, and electron as the building blocks of form. The Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches of the US government are designed to keep our democracy in balance. The mantra which completes our meditations acknowledges our mental body, our emotional body, and our physical body; combined, these create our sense of self. I could write for pages on the number three.

Three powerful words which help describe steps one, two, and three of the Practice of Living Awareness are: intention, relation, and momentum. What we set in motion through our intention generates choices, which attract cooperative components in order to bring the intention into our experience. New experiences, which are the result of our intentions & choices, create the unfolding our our reality – our life’s momentum. We experience a version of this each time we sit down to meditate. It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3.
