Pondering Anchors

Tip of the Nose – Day 3: “Bring your awareness back to your anchor.” This is a suggestion that’s often offered during a guided mindfulness meditation. It is the go-to remedy for a meandering mind. The anchor could be your breath, bodily sensations, or sounds in the environment… something that is present, or better yet, readily and consistently available – besides your oppressive thought stream. The tip of the nose is a wonderful anchor and one we’ve been exploring this week.

But why the term “anchor?” Does it serve well? For today’s conversation on Week 2’s theme, Tip of the Nose, Jake and Steve discuss the value of concentration and tools that can help us acquire this skill in meditation. Oh, and alternatives to the rather heavy word, anchor. Enjoy!
