Mind – Day 1  It’s safe to say that the wide variety of meditation trainings have one one thing in common: they are a doorway to getting acquainted with your mind. The Buddha observed that the primary source of our suffering is to be discovered within the mind. If we’re feeling stressed or worried, it originated in the mind; similarly, if we are filled with happiness, that experience contains quite a bit of mind-stuff. Therefore, it is wise to spend time with this phenomenon called, simply, Mind.

Getting to know the mind is perhaps the most reliable path to freedom. It will not change the ups and downs of life, those are inevitable; but it will produce the freedom to choose our response to them. The freedom to choose our thoughts, and thus our responses, is perhaps one of the grandest freedoms afforded our species. What’s in your bag of mind-stuff?
