At various times throughout our 14-week program we will offer specific meditation exercises. These may feel a little different than the others and that’s intentional. Today’s meditation is one of those. It’s a body scan meditation and it certainly asks this of you: go with the flow.
A body scan meditation moves awareness from body part to body part and invites the themes of weeks one and two to be put into action… (1) smiling with what’s in the field of your awareness—creating space for it to be just as it is; and (2) generating steadiness by lingering with the direct experience of particular parts of the body human… until it’s time to flow on to the next.
Can we be present moment to moment? Can we allow moments to flow, one to the next? Can we go with the flow? Can we stay with the flow? It sounds simple, and it is; but it’s not always easy.
This meditation is a little bit longer than most and we hope you’ll stick with it. It can get tedious at times… be aware of that and offer it a smile! It’s a great workout for your meditation muscle.
One more thing… you may choose to lie down for this one; perhaps on a yoga mat or a blanket spread out on the floor… getting comfortable, yet remaining alert.
Happy body scanning!
