As we conclude the first half of this round of meditations, it’s a good time to ask how your meditation practice is going. So, how’s it going?
What just entered your mind? If practice is relatively new to you, thoughts may arise such as, “I’m trying, but I’m not sure if I’m getting anywhere.” I know I said that for at least two years when I decided I was going to establish a regular meditation practice for myself.
Well, guess what? You’re not sure if you’re getting anywhere because you’re not going anywhere. You’re there and you’re looking elsewhere. It’s simply doubt and a bit of restlessness. And that’s just part of the human condition.
So what do we do with that? Well, we observe it and we name it. You become friends with the mind by getting to know it. By saying, “Mind, that’s just doubt.”Mind, you’re a bit restless today.” We do that gently and mindfully. And then you’ve arrived, you are present. You are here now, living and breathing; all’s perfect and complete.
Perhaps you answered that question by simply saying, “It’s going. I’m here.” How perfect! And complete!
Thank you for meditating—and the world thanks you.
