japanese_avalokiteshvara_tr30Avolokiteshvara has many forms: male or female, 2, 4, 6, 8, or 1000 arms; one head, 11, or 14; standing, sitting, one knee up regally, or in vajra posture. Avolokiteshvara is Kwan Yin, is Chenrezig, is the Four Immeasurables, is the Six Virtues, and is compassion as the only action. Avolokiteshvara is a mahasattva – a great being.
