The Way Back

This week we’ll explore the 12th theme within the Practice of Living Awareness: Central Channel—an inner pathway of alignment, connection, and presence. Many traditions describe the Central Channel in symbolic or esoteric language, but it can also be understood quite simply. We know the feeling of being off-center and we know the relief of coming back. A steady breath. An upright spine. A moment of awareness. Suddenly, something reorganizes. This is it.

Most say centeredness feels like being poised or dignified. If you were invited to center yourself, you might naturally straighten-up, collect your attention, and sense your presence from the inside out. In this way, you may already be using the Central Channel as your guide.

To be centered doesn’t mean life becomes still or predictable. It means discovering a place within yourself that can remain steady while life continues to move. Thoughts may come and go. Emotions may change. Circumstances may be demanding. Yet somewhere within, there is a deeper calm available.

Meditation helps us remember that our center is readily available. Each time we sit down, feel the body supported, and gently bring attention to the breath, we strengthen our relationship with center. Not through force or will, but through familiarity. Again and again, we learn the way back.

The invitation this week isn’t to become someone new, but to reconnect with something already there—beneath the distraction, beneath the reactivity, beneath the rush of experience—a center that’s both subtle and distinct, waiting to be noticed.

Happy meditating.
